Walk the Walls

Walk the Walls is coming to Cronulla from 8 to 10 November 2019, with Sutherland Shire Council set to once again host the hugely successful street art project following a $75,000 investment from the NSW Government.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce and Attorney General and Member for Cronulla Mark Speakman announced the 2019 joint project, that will build on the success of the Walk the Walls festival in Caringbah to reduce graffiti vandalism in Cronulla CBD.

35 street artists are locked in to transform this popular coastal destination into a gigantic outdoor art gallery, with more artists expected to be named in the line-up that will see over 40 street and laneway walls revived in early November.

Big names include; Tim ‘PHIBS’, Ox King, Minna Leunig, Mulga, Alex Le Hours, Shannon Crees, Thomas Jackson, Elliott ‘Numskull’ Routledge.

The festival will be conducted in partnership with local businesses, community organisations and young people and will see an array of street artist beautify the streets of Cronulla, while the masses watch on and enjoy live music and food stalls.

Creations will kick-off on Friday 8 November, with onlookers set to be treated to three days of aesthetic entertainment as artists work to finish their masterpieces before sunset on Sunday. A vast range of artistic styles will be on display, including street art, stencils, posters, sculptural works, pattern making, figurative, portraiture, abstract, illustrative and urban art, creating an art trail for all to embrace.

This year, Surf Lane, Cronulla Street and Purley Place are just some of the locations that will be given a spectacular makeovers during the multi-day festival.

The event will be a drawcard for thousands of visitors and residents as local, Indigenous and national artists paint large scale murals in the suburb’s CBD and rail corridors. Artworks will be protected by anti-graffiti coatings.
