Reflection by PHIBS

REFLECTION comes at a critical point of transition for PHIBS, having not exhibited in the gallery for several years. This collection of paintings, new and old, defines an era past - fuelled by the recent Australian bushfires, family turmoil, relationships, and most recently the Coronavirus epidemic. REFLECTION vignettes the past several years of the artist’s psyche, exposed through the meditation of painting.

“The process of creating artwork has always been grounding and keeps me centred and focused... making artwork is my anchor. Every now and then I stray from the path and lose my way. Life's distractions, fears, and worries can be an unhelpful indulgence... It is a continuous vicious circle that I find myself in, constantly.”

Through REFLECTION, PHIBS breathes new life into older works that were never completely finished until now. These older works are balanced by new pieces created through this uncertain time of isolation, transition, and discovery. This collection of new and old explores the symbols, objects, and emotions that make the artist who he is and subliminally shape his practice.

REFLECTION is made up of abstract paintings created with acrylics and aerosol on canvas and board, produced over several years dating back to the mid-2010s. As always, PHIBS' undeniably distinctive style shines brightly and we're very excited to share this important new collection with you all next Friday online.
