SURFACE FESTIVAL – A celebration of street art in Canberra
5–7 November 2021
Community Expression of Interest (EOI)
Self-funded projects and events
Are you a creative individual, local business, group, or organisation who would like to have a self-funded event considered for our curated festival program? Projects and events will take place in Braddon and Civic, with some satellite projects happening across other parts of Canberra.
The ACT Government is hosting Surface Festival from 5-7 November 2021. Curated by street artist Tim PHIBS, the festival will feature 15 artists painting walls, workshops, panel talks, and events over the festival weekend.
Community EOI’s open: 5 May 2021
Deadline: We're extending the community EOI until 24 June 2021.
How to apply:
To submit your interest, fill out the online EOI form (takes approximately 8 minutes) and provide a brief description of your event.
We are looking for events, pop-ups, and projects relating to street art, graffiti, and urban culture. Here are some ideas for inspiration, keep in mind events will need to be COVID-19 safe:
Host an exhibition/pop up at your venue
Program a street art-inspired DJ night or poetry slam session at your café or bar
Create your own community mural with your organisation
Host an arts talk in your foyer or venue
Run a workshop for up-cycled art, yarn bombing, t-shirt screen-printing, etc
Flash mobs, street theatre, street art cycling tour
Artist networking events, film night, streetwear fashion show, market stalls
Events can be free or ticketed, however, applicants are responsible for managing their own ticket sales and are responsible for costs associated with hosting the event.
A panel will assess all applications received by the deadline. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 12 July 2021. Applications will be assessed on merit. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to apply.
